Davidson County stands at the southern gateway to the Yadkin Valley Wine Appellation, one of the United States’ newest federally designated viticulture regions. The region encompasses seven North Carolina counties, boasting over 20 wineries, and is situated on rolling hills; picturesque countryside and acres of land that once grew tobacco but now produce grapes. Childress Vineyards NASCAR team owner Richard Childress invites you to visit his signature winery, Childress Vineyards in Lexington. There you can taste world-class wines crafted by award-winning winemaker, Mark Friszolowski, take a guided tour of the wine making process, and enjoy a picnic lunch from the Bistro. Be sure to save time to browse through the winery gift shop! Come see why Wine Enthusiast magazine selected Childress Vineyards as one of America’s Top 25 Tasting Rooms. During the summer months, on Saturday and Sunday you’ll find live music on the Terrace overlooking the grounds of the winery. Look details on our calendar pages. The complex now includes the Shoppes at Vineyards Crossing and coming soon…The Inn & Restaurant at Vineyards Crossing. Complimentary admission The Zimmerman Farm was born in 1894 when Junius Lindsay Zimmerman and his bride Beatrice Estelle Evans looked for a place to begin their new life. Junius cleared the land and farmed it until he was 90 years old. Today, the nine acre vineyard that was first planted in 2004 is nestled among forests and streams on the soil that has been proudly farmed by the same family for over a century. Grape varieties include voignier, a rare white variety that originated in Condrieu, on France's Northern Rhône River that traces its heritage back over 2000 years. Other varietals, all native to the Rhône Valley, include Syrah, Petite Syrah and Roussanne. Junius Lindsay Wines are available for purchase at Tastings (312 East Center Street, Lexington), Wine Merchants Gourmet (1901 Mooney Street, Winston-Salem), and For All Occasions, Ltd., (3266 S Church Street, Burlington).
